The first weekend in December is traditionally the most popular for families to pick out their Christmas tree.
Sue Bostic of Joe's Trees in Craig County offered several tips on News 7 Mornin' for the care of a live tree. Bostic said to make sure the bottom of the tree has a fresh cut within 30 minutes of getting it home. Water it daily with lukewarm water. Keep the tree away from direct heat sources and check all lights for shorts and open wires. Bostic said your tree will remain fresh throughout the holidays if your follow those simple tips.
She said the two best selling tree types at Joe's Trees are the Fraser Fir and Canaan Fir. Fraser Fir is the most popular with its short needles and deep green color. The Canaan Fir features slightly longer needles and a lighter shade of green. Other popular Christmas tree types include the Concolor Fir, which has a citrus smell, and the White Pine.
December 4-6, Joe's Trees is participating in the nationwide Trees for Troops program, sponsored by National Christmas Tree Association, the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation and FedEx Corp.
